Déjà Vu

Privacy policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

This privacy policy explains how Déjà Vu handles your memories and personal information.

Processing on your device

Déjà Vu uses Apple’s PhotoKit framework to find and select photographic memories from previous years. Selection, organisation and presentation take place locally on your iPhone or iPad.

Data collection and accounts

Déjà Vu does not operate a server that stores your photos, videos or metadata. The app does not use third-party analytics, telemetry, advertising networks or tracking. You do not need to register or create a Déjà Vu account.

Photo library permission

The app requests access to your photo library to select and show daily memories in the app and its widgets. You can manage this permission in iOS Settings.

Historical context

If you enable historical context, Déjà Vu requests information from Wikipedia’s public API, sending only the month and day being viewed. Photos, locations and personal identifiers are not sent.

External photo sources and Google Photos

If you choose to connect Dropbox, an Immich server or Google Photos, Déjà Vu communicates directly with that provider to authorise access and download the photos you allow. Each connection is optional.

Credentials are stored securely in the device’s Keychain. Dropbox and Immich allow reading photos from the account or server you connect. Google Photos access is limited to photos you explicitly select using Google’s official Picker.

Downloaded photos are added to your iOS photo library, preserving their date so they can appear in memories, widgets and reminders. Déjà Vu does not upload your photos to these services, transfer photos from one provider to another or receive copies on its own servers.

You can choose how long local copies are kept. When this period expires, Déjà Vu deletes only the copy it created; the online original is not changed. Disconnecting a service in Settings removes its credentials from the device. Previously imported copies follow your chosen retention period.

Each provider’s privacy policy also applies to your use of its service.

Birthdays and contacts

If you enable birthdays, Déjà Vu reads the name, birthday and photo of contacts you permit, locally on your device. It also stores the identifiers of photos you manually link to each person. Contact data and linked photos never leave the device. You can disable birthdays in the app and manage Contacts permission in iOS Settings.

Google API data and Limited Use

Déjà Vu’s use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. These photos are not used for advertising, sold or used to train artificial intelligence models.
